I didn't understand why option C is incorrect. "Pollutants" is plural and countable so "MANY" should come for pollutant. Why "Many of pollutant" is incorrect ? Is there any other error, which i am missing ?

I thought since pollutants is plural it should be followed by a plural verb ‘come’, also since pollutants though seem countable they may actually be difficult to count hence its apt to use ‘most’ . My attempt was at option E

Source : Experts' Global Training Study Material.

Meaning conveyed here by use of "Much" and "Many"

Much : To convey the quantity of "pollutants...areas".
Many : Changes the meaning by suggesting the different kinds or types rather than quantity of "pollutants...areas".

Hi guys, I was wondering could one of you guys please explain why option A is correct? I chose option E instead as I thought we will need a plural verb for pollutants instead? Please help! Would immensely appreciate it!

According to me, like we use, 'group' , 'bouquet', etc. for singular form, similarly, 'much', 'more', 'many', etc is singular. Thus, option A with uses singular form of verb, is correct.

Isn’t “much” used when you can’t count?

Yes exactly, much is used here because we are not counting the different pollutants but referring to some "quantity" of pollutants.

I would go out on a limb here and say that this question is not worth doing. I could make a solid argument for C.
