Again, let's follow my favourite procedure, POE.

Let's see the original sentence: A recent report shows that there are more than 3 times as many X underlined text etc etc. Idiom usage: as many .... as. The answer choices must contain as. What is being compared : households.
A. Idiomatic exp correct. But "as many as.... compared to" - Incorrect.
B. Idiomatic exp correct. - Right choice.
C. Idiomatic exp correct. "whose" does not go with households - Incorrect
D. Incorrect idiomatic expression " as many .. than"
E. Incorrect idiomatic expression " as many .. than"

I think B is the right answer.

I also with B. I chose C but "those whose" = "households whose" sounds incorrectly.

Oh at the same boat as mine!

Let see C: as those whose...= as households whose parents

It really sounds good for me, ofcourse, in my daily life!

The correct answer is B. First consider a simple example to understand why the parallelism is properly maintained in B:

I have three times as many pens as you have (pens).

The blue-highlighted and the pink-highlighted parts are correctly compared.

Now take option E:

there are (more than) three times as many households where the children and grandchildren are living in their grandparents’ home as there are (households) where the..

You may now probably understand how the above two structures are identical.

Please let me know if you still have doubt.
