to find the area of the path, you'd have to minus the bigger rectangle formed to the initial rectangle specified.
____150____
|.................|
70...............70
|__________|

The area of the first rectangle is = 150* 70 = 10,500

The path built is 5m long which encloses the above rectangle
_______________
|_|__________|_|
|_|..................|_|
|_|.................|80|
|_|__________|_|
|_____160_____ |

Making the new rectangles area to be 160*80 =12,800

The area of the path = area of new rectangle - area of old rectangle
= 12,800 - 10,500 = 2,300

(e) 2400 sq.m.

Explanation: Current area of Path LxB= 150 * 70 = 10500 square metre
As we know, 5 meters is constructed outside the park, so L & B will be increased by 10m
New Area: L x B = 160*80= 12800

So the area increased by = New - Old
= 12800 - 10500 = 2300 sq.m.

Please provide kudos, if you find my explanation good enough

Hello, Just so you know. You can solve this on a piece of paper, click the picture and upload on the forum.

Just so you can save this much of effort next time

$$(150 +2*5)(70 + 2*5) - 150*70$$

$$= 12800 - 10500$$

$$= 2300$$, Answer must be (D)
