Solution

Given:
• 5 integers are evenly distributed and arranged in increased order.

To find:
• The value of c

Statement-1: “The smallest integer of the set is 4“
a= 4
This does not give us any information about c.
Hence, Statement 1 alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Statement-2: “Range of the set is 12 “
Since all the 5 elements are evenly distributed, we can assume the b= a+r, c= b+r= a+2r and so on.
• Hence, d= a+3r and e= a+4r
Now, range is 12.
Hence, e-a= 12
• a+4r-a= 12
• r= 3
• Hence, c= a+6
• But we don’t know the value of a.
Statement 2 alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Combining both the statements:
From Statement 1:
a=4
From Statement 2:
c=a+6
Hence, c= 10
Hence, we can find the answer by combining both the statements.

Statement (1) and (2) together are sufficient to answer the question.
Hence, the correct answer is option C.

Ans: C
Statment: set {a, b, c, d, e}, which are evenly distributed and are arranged in increasing order of value.
means b= a+x, c=a+2x, d= a+3x, e=a+4x and so on.. what is c???

now from stat:1) a=4 ; c= 4+2x .. as we do not know anything about the x here (not Suff)
stat:2) Range of set is 12
means e-a= 12 ; a+4x-a=12 so x=3
and c= a +2x : so c= a+6, but we don't know the value of a so (not suff)
State 1&2) we know the value of a and x so c= 4+6= 10 (Suff)
