in order to get the maximum possible price...then we must have the maxium possible discount available for that book.

$2.40 price of book after 25% discount! 2.4/.75 or (4*2.4)/3=3.20$3.20

Its good to see both the respondents getting the answer correct. You had to get the greatest possible original price of the item, after the discount.
