A team of efficiency consultant conducted a study of company x and found that 85% of its employees suffered a "midafternoon slump" between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. during this slump, each employee's productivity went down an average of 30%. the consultants recommended, therefore, that management institute a policy encouraging employees to take their lunch breaks sometime between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm, since employees do not need to be productive as they eat lunch.

The consultant's conclusion relies on which of the following assumptions?

A. the consultants found no correlation between consumption of food and the feelings of lethargy experienced by the employees of company x during the midafternoon slump.

B. some of the employees of company x do not eat breakfast until they arrive at the office at 9:00 am.

C. the consultants had seen the same slump phenomenon at company p, and had made the same recommendation to change the lunch hour.

D. most of the employees of company x expressed a preference to each lunch sometime between the hours of 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.

E. the consultant also suggested adjusting the work schedules of half of the employees of company x so that they would come in early in the morning and leave by 2:00 pm.

Given : productivity of employees went down from 2pm to 4 pm.

Conclusion : Lunch is to be taken from 2pm to 4pm,since employees do not need to be productive during these hours.

Pre thinking : what if the productivity goes down because of lethargy experienced by the employees.

A. the consultants found no correlation between consumption of food and the feelings of lethargy experienced by the employees of company x during the midafternoon slump.( Match with our pre thinking, if we negate this statement, the consultant found correlation between consumption of food and the feelings of lethargy experienced by the employees of company during the mid-afternoon slump, then conclusion doesn't hold)

B. some of the employees of company x do not eat breakfast until they arrive at the office at 9:00 am.( Discussion is about mid-afternoon slump)

C. the consultants had seen the same slump phenomenon at company p, and had made the same recommendation to change the lunch hour. ( Argument is all about company X)

D. most of the employees of company x expressed a preference to each lunch sometime between the hours of 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.( it is not an assumption, the statement talks about preference)

E. the consultant also suggested adjusting the work schedules of half of the employees of company x so that they would come in early in the morning and leave by 2:00 pm.( This statement talks about additional recommendation, can't be an assumption)

Will go with choice A

Thanks

Well,
the argument states that in order to decrease or eliminate midafternoon Slump, author suggested to put lunch time between 2- 4 pm

Option E: states alternate method addressing half of the employees in a company, ; This proposal is not relevant to the conclusion or argument,
We need to find an assumption, which helps us conclude the conclusion .
Option E addresses an out of box solution for a problem and is not pertinent to argument

kudos
