I am a 26 yr old software engineer looking for further growth in career. I m currently having a good pay of about18 LPA and have 3.7 years of work experience. I am looking for MBA but the avg package from ISB PGP is 22 LPA and from IIMA PGPA is 25 LPA. Is it advisable for me to go for MBA (PGP) from ISB or PGPX from IIMA?I have also researched abt MBA from US but it is way too costly - about 1.1 crores INR and scholarships , I assume are at max 30%. But the average package from USA MBA is good - about $140K. So given my work experience of 4 years and a good current package of 18 LPA, should I go for MBA from ISB/ IIMA or an MBA from US?

Thanks for sharing your profile. Where do you want to live post-MBA? For international students like you especially with money concerns, the closer you go to where you want to eventually live post-MBA the easier it will be to get there.

I have no preference of location - as I am as much okay working in India as much as in USA. Also after ISB/IIMA, the average package one gets is 24 LPA, which is just about tad higher than my current pay. So for a bigger hike and growth, is it advisable to go to US - where the average package for consultants is $140K. The second question between a 20th ranked US college and ISB/ IIMA which is better for a software eng. like me? And thirdly I want to know how can I manage the huge fees of MBA colleges in USA?

So the US MBA market is #1 for a reason, it offers the most career opportunities and best collection of brand names globally. I dont know what LPAs converts to in USD but I'm assuming it is less than the $140k avg you quoted. Although this $140k avg seems a bit high to me that avg salary will largely be reserved from the highest paying post-MBA jobs in mgmt consulting and finance. So just keep that in mind. Now the comparison between a 20th ranked US MBA versus ISB / IIMA would depend on your career goals. Depending on your career goals a #20 ranked US programs will add tremendous value to your career, but obviously may provide less of an ROI from top ranked programs. As far as paying for your MBA, most people rely on their savings, scholarships, employer sponsorship, and loans to pay for their education
