(E) require a minimum of \$250,000 in malpractice coverage to be protected

Correct constructions of require are:
1) require that X Y
2) require X to Y
Almost everything is correct in A, but the "to be protected" destroys everything. It should rather be " to protect".
B and C are unidiomatic. C distorts the meaning too.
D is again unidiomatic.
E follows the rules and hence is the answer.

HI, Can someone help me with the command subjunctive of this SC.

When i was solving the question, option A was a little different from the one mentioned above(there was no to be protected in option a) ..

According to legal experts, doctors require that a minimum of \$250,000 in malpractice coverage be purchased to protect against the most common types of medical lawsuits.

a)require that a minimum of \$250,000 in malpractice coverage be purchased to protect
b)require that there be a minimum of \$250,000 in malpractice coverage to be protected
c)require that there be a minimum of \$250,000 in malpractice coverage
d)require a minimum of \$250,000 in malpractice coverage for the protection
e)require a minimum of \$250,000 in malpractice coverage to be protected

Can someone help me here with why option A is wrong ? OA is the same.

The difference between answers A and E is that the first includes the active verb form "to protect" at the end of the underlined part whereas answer E uses the passive form "to be protected." We need to use the passive because this part of the clause does not include the information who should be protected. If we use the active form, we need an object. In choice E we can see that it is "doctors" who require a minimum ... to be protected."
