We are comparing the age of women and not the age of babies born. (B) and (E) are incorrect.
(C) and (D) are incorrect because they lack parallelism. (more women over X than "they were" / "than there had been")

This a a straight Comparison question.

Compares Women over the age of thirty to women under thirty.

My opinion is A the original prompt is correct by itself.

It compares women [b] over the age of thirty [b] to women [b] under thirty [b] correctly.

2. Option 2 is not parallel and senseless as it compares women over age of thirty to [i] women born under it.
If only there was a born before [i] over the age of thirty [i] this could have been a correct option

3. Option C : refers women by using [b] they which is not required

4. Option D Tense problem we don’t need to compare the time when women were over the age of thirty to the time when they were under the agr of thirty. Plus “there” is superfluous.

5. Option E same as D we don’t want to compare the time.

The entities compared are thirty and under it(thirty).
A is correct. No ambiguity.
