The meaning of this sentence is the tough part for me. C, D, and E all say that the depression will be "with" double-digit unemployment. That confuses the meaning of the sentence.

B is wrong because it is wordy.

A is correct.

A it is!

C, D and E suggest that depression and double digit unemloyment occur simultaneously when it says "depression with double digit unempoyment" So they are out.

B seems to suggest that depression is the effect and double digit unemployment is the casue. In fact the opposite is true. SO B is out.
