Hi

I booked my GMAT yesterday for September end and downloaded the GMATPrep software. Haven't touched math since the past 12 years so thought I'd benchmark myself before starting prep to see which areas I need to focus on.

Surprisingly, I managed a 770 score. Baring 4-5 questions, I had found the rest pretty straight forward.

My question is: How accurate a representation of the actual GMAT does the GMATPrep provide? Is there any other question set that is more challenging?

Also, even after multiple reviews, I tend to disagree with the solutions for some of the questions I got incorrect.. and this scares me - what if the questions I marked 'correct' as well have wrong solutions in the software's data bank?

Any feedback from others who have given the GMATPrep will be helpful.

The GMAT Prep software uses the same scoring algorithm as the actual GMAT and hence is the most accurate representation of a test score that there is available. That said, chances are you are missing out on the concepts that you got wrong, it could be minute details at that scoring level. I am pretty positive there aren't errors in the solutions. Maybe you can identify just those areas where you got the questions wrong and work on them.

Good job!

Just google the questions that you got incorrect. "GMATPrep...." Almost most of the questions you will see discussed in some forums. In manhattan gmat forums, even instructors give explanation. I am sure GMATPrep does not have any mistakes, it is just that you are missing some information. Can you post those quetions?

For the first try it's an amazing score and I would say it's accurate too

Good luck

I figured out my mistake in the few questions I got wrong - in every case it boiled down to one simple problem - failure to consider all scenarios.

eg. If X > Y^2 > Z^4, which of the following can possibly be true?

I. X > Y > Z
II. Z > Y > X
III. X > Z > Y

The correct answer was all three. I could not figure out how II could be true because I did not consider fractions between 0 to 1 for values of Y.

All other questions I missed were of similar nature - failed to consider real numbers or fractions in the solution set. Guess, my math is a bit rusty after all.
