Could someone explain the difference between an active voice vs. a passive voice? I see a lot of postings stating that the GMAT doesn't like a passive voice, but what is considered passive?

Keep it simple...

i ate apple - Active
apple was eaten by me -- passive.

most of the time, passive voice will be wordy...

In an active voice sentence, the subject accomplishes the action, e.g., "I ate guacamole."

In a passive voice sentence, the subject receives the action, e.g., "The guacamole was eaten by me."

It's much more powerful and meaningful for the subject to accomplish the action, which is why active voice is preferred. As a side note, passive voice is not incorrect grammatically, but it is considered weaker from a stylistic perspective.

No, this is in regards to SC questions, we are supposed to avoid the passive voice. So if a solution is passive, you should eliminate it.
