A. $$2p-x$$ B. $$3p-2x$$ C. $$p-4x$$ D. $$p-x$$ E. $$4p-3x$$ So total of all three $$a+ b+c= 3p$$ then $$d$$ get $$s$$ points . So now the total of all four $$a+b+c + d = 3p +s$$ Given avg.of four = $$\frac{3p +s}{4} =p-x$$ $$3p+s=4p-4x$$ $$s=p-4x$$ Ans- C _________________ - Stne Math Revolution GMAT Instructor Joined: 16 Aug 2015 Posts: 8235 GMAT 1: 760 Q51 V42 GPA: 3.82 Re: Adam, Ben, and Charles take an exam, and their average is p points. Then we have $$p = \frac{(a + b + c)}{3}$$ or $$a + b + c = 3p.$$ The average of the 4 people including David is $$\frac{(a + b + c + s)}{4} = \frac{(3p + s)}{4} = p-x.$$ Then we have $$4p - 4x = 3p + s$$ or $$s = p - 4x.$$ Therefore, C is the answer.
