IMO C,

(A) that the company had to invest more in marketing the car ads as well as bundle banners and car ads into a single package
'and' is more preferable as in Choice (C) than 'as well as'.

(B) so that the company had to invest more in marketing the car ads and bundle banners as well as car ads into a single package
Idiom error - The correct construction is so X that Y and not so X so that Y. Hence eliminate

(C) that the company had to invest more in marketing the car ads and bundle banners and car ads into a single package
Correct Answer

(D) as to forcing the company to invest in marketing the car ads as much as in bundling banners and car ads into a single package
Meaning error and Construction error - 'as to forcing' is awkward and also 'as much as' conveys the different meaning from the original sentence. Hence eliminate

(E) that the company had to invest in marketing the car ads as much as in bundling banners and car ads into a single package
Meaning error - 'as much as' is Changing the intended meaning of the sentence. Hence eliminate.

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Advertisement banners in the air balloon competition last year received so much more exposure than the ads on sports cars in the countryside rally race, owned by the same company, that the company had to invest more in marketing the car ads as well as bundle banners and car ads into a single package.

(A) that the company had to invest more in marketing the car ads as well as bundle banners and car ads into a single package

This answer choice is stylistically flawed. Using as well as instead of and is redundant.

(B) so that the company had to invest more in marketing the car ads and bundle banners as well as car ads into a single package

While this answer choice corrects one of the two original redundancies, it repeats the other: using as well as instead of and is redundant.

Furthermore, this answer choice does not fit into the original sentence as a result of the addition of the word so in the beginning of the underlined part. The correct construction is so X that Y and not so X so that Y.

(C) that the company had to invest more in marketing the car ads and bundle banners and car ads into a single package

This answer choice corrects the original redundancy issue by simply replacing the wordy as well as with the concise and. No further adjustments are necessary in this sentence, and indeed none were made.

(D) as to forcing the company to invest in marketing the car ads as much as in bundling banners and car ads into a single package

This answer choice is grammatically incorrect. The construction so x as to y is incorrect.

Also, this answer choice changes the meaning of the original sentence. In the original sentence, the addition phrase as well as is used to connect between two actions the company had to carry out (invest and bundle):

invest as well as bundle = invest + bundle

In this answer choice, as well as is replaced by as much as, which denotes a comparison between the two objects of the verb invest, namely, marketing and bundling.

(E) that the company had to invest in marketing the car ads as much as in bundling banners and car ads into a single package

This answer choice changes the meaning of the original sentence.

- the structure of this sentence effectively becomes ".....had to invest....into a single package". How can you invest something into a package? this does not make any logical sense.

(B) so that the company had to invest more in marketing the car ads and bundle banners as well as car ads into a single package
- 'so that...' structure does not make any sense here.

We can use a parallel example that has the same error in (B) to understand this awkwardness.

"Last year, I received so much attention on social media so that I amassed 1 million followers". As you can see in this parallel example, removing 'so' would have made this sentence a whole lot better. (which is also the case with the main sentence of this question).

(C) that the company had to invest more in marketing the car ads and bundle banners and car ads into a single package - (C) has no error. hence, (C) is the right answer choice.

(D) as to forcing the company to invest in marketing the car ads as much as in bundling banners and car ads into a single package
- this is super awkward. Moreover, the verb 'forcing' is in the present progressive tense, whereas the main event being described took place last year.

(E) that the company had to invest in marketing the car ads as much as in bundling banners and car ads into a single package
- (E) equates the level of investments across 'marketing' and 'bundling', whereas the intended meaning was to highlight the two categories across which the investments were made

Sir, please explain clearly why Option A is wrong. Is it because of parallelism?
Marketing ads and ads?
“As well as” is not a clear reason to eliminate this option.

“Option C” lacks parallelism. X and Y and C. it should be “car ads, and bundle banners and car ads into a single package”

We should not equate ‘and’ with as well as; And is full-fledged coordinate conjunction and parallelism marker that connects two equal things, while as well is only an additive and is not a parallelism marker. The items joined by ‘as well as' may not be equal and in fact, the second item is said to be inferior to the first one. This is a key difference between the two.
