Alan: Industrialisation helps in achieving a variety of social objectives such as employment, gender equality and poverty eradication. Thus, Industrialization must be promoted extensively for the welfare of a nation.

Charlie: But you must also consider that extensive industrial processes can have negative environmental impacts, causing climate change, loss of natural resources and extinction of species. These threaten the economic and social welfare of a nation. Thus, the nation should promote the positive impacts of industrial development while limiting or eliminating its negative impacts.

Charlie objects to Alan’s argument by

A. showing that Alan has based his argument on limited understanding of the impact of Industrialisation
B. claiming that Alan has exaggerated the positive impacts of Industrialisation.
C. Rejecting Alan’s argument as flawed
D. contradicting the evidence that Alan has used to support his argument.
E. suggesting that negative impacts of Industrialisation offset its positive impacts.

Thanks!

well the reasoning is: Alan has said something very positive about industrialization
charlie starts his arguments by stating "But you must also consider" and then goes on to state some "negative" aspect of industrialization .he further concludes his argument by stating "Thus, the nation should promote the positive impacts of industrial development while limiting or eliminating its negative impacts."
so effectively he is "showing that Alan has based his argument on limited understanding of the impact of Industrialization"

i am really worried by this line!! is it that u have made this question on some OG question. because if that is the case then i will suggest u never to do so ,unless of course ur RON !! OG questions (CR and SC ) are highly sacrosanct and 99.99 percent times u will end up making a bad question even if u change a scintilla of thing in it!!

Hi Aditya8062

Your reasoning is absolutely correct!

As for the question creation part, I understand your concern. I've clarified that in my other post to you. No official question has been harmed in creation of this question. :D

Well, on a serious note, the question has been created keeping the critical reasoning essence in mind.

Thanks!

C. Rejecting Alan’s argument as flawed

E. suggesting that negative impacts of Industrialisation offset its positive impacts.

Confusion only arises between A and E.

A is more strong. Because Charlie support the argument of Alan, we know it from "the nation should promote the positive impacts of industrial development..." and he just wanted to show the negative impact as well that Allan had forgone due to limited understanding. Thus, A is correct. :)

A. showing that Alan has based his argument on limited understanding of the impact of Industrialisation
looks good. C does not go against what A thinks, but just points out the negative impacts.

B. claiming that Alan has exaggerated the positive impacts of Industrialisation.
no, he does not!!! He just simply states the negative effects while does not talk about the positive ones.

C. Rejecting Alan’s argument as flawed
Not true. C considers that I still has some positive effects.

D. contradicting the evidence that Alan has used to support his argument.
He does not.

E. suggesting that negative impacts of Industrialisation offset its positive impacts.
tempting one, but no! He does not say that negative effects offset the positive ones.
