The salary of Jim is expressed in algebra as 1.07S ( if the initial salary S is increased by 0.7) // shouldn’t it be S+ (S - 0.7S)

Does someone understand where that number comes from?

If initial salary is s and it is increased by 7%.
So, increase = s*7/100=0.07s
Final salary = initial+increase =s+0.7s=1.07s

Initial Salary is "S"
Increase in Salary 7% of S (0.07S)

So Total = S + 0.07S
= S (1+0.07)
= 1.07S

I hope it clears your doubt

Let Initial salary = 100
Salary Increased by 7%
So, increased salary = 100*7/100= 7
Final salary = initial+increase =100+7=107

If you are not able to solve the question with algebra, try to solve it using numbers.
