I've been stuck at around 650-700 for a little while now and I am hoping to bump up to a 750. One of the biggest changes I am making is to starting keeping an error log like you recommended. So thanks!

Hi guys... thanks for posting this information about the error log. I've started keeping mine and am sure it will come in useful for analysis of problem areas.
I have a few questions about how to best use the error log.

I've started on the Kaplan Premier book and have almost done all the questions and read the strats and will move to OG12 soon. I've diligently kept an error log of all my errors from Kaplan including time taken to complete question, basic category etc.

1) I haven't kept any specific notes on each question because some of them are just simple, harder questions which required logic that I did not think about. Is it best to just re-do these until your accuracy and timing gets better or is there some other approach?

2) Is it best to attack your error log on a regular basis such as weekly or as suggested, as a final review towards the exam time?

Any help appreciated. Again thanks for posting this it never occured to me to create anything like this before.

Come on guys, I am diligently keeping an error log too. sriharimurthy, like you said it can really be drag sometimes but I am sure it will pays off. :)

Thanks for the info. I recently started an error log. Mine, however, is pretty basic: what's wrong and why, what number, which type of question, etc. Some of the error logs I've come across, while impressive, seem a little too sophisticated.

Thanks for explaining why the error log is useful. I have seen an error log before, but I just wasn't sure why it is helpful. After reading your post about using the error log at the last 2 week, it makes a lot of sense to me now. I am going to start one!

I've added two columns to my error log that I find are pretty helpful: action and lessons learned.
-lessons learned: If I have a correct answer and learned something in reviewing the solution, I jot it down so that I can have a list of hints and tricks to remember.
-action: I really like the action column because knowing that I got a problem wrong because I didn't understand the concept isn't enough. I'm asking myself, "What about this problem didn't I understand specifically that I need to work on and get more comfortable/familiar with?"

Thanks for all the work :-D
I am just about to start for preparing for my GMAT. for now i am getting all the study material and resources to start studying. I think the error log will be very helpful to me at the final stages of my preparation and as I have it even before starting studies , I will make sure I use it properly and efficintly.
This forum is the best place to be, you guys do a awesome job.

Great tool..thanks to all who have contributed to develop this little tool..I am surely gonna use it for my practice questions..and I m sure it's gonna help me improve...But I think I'll add 1 more column of OA so that I may have a look at it when revising and there should be option of putting OG10, OG11, OG12 and other tests ( may be a drop down list ) too.

how should I go about using the error log when i first start studying and am not yet doing cat's? if i'm doing problem sets from the og books, should i stop after each problem to record the time it takes and how confident i felt about my answer? this seems like it would not be very productive, but if you don't stop at each problem, i feel like it will be hard to get accurate times and confidence levels.
