Greetings,
I hear a lot of discussion about building an alternate transcript as a way to improve your UG GPA. I have a 3.2 from a top 40 national university. My grades trend heavily upward as my college career progressed from 3.0's my freshman year to 3.5's in senior year while taking upper level finance/mgmt classes.
My job has offered to pay for some classes at a nationally ranked business school for both professional development and business school, I figure they can only help. How many classes are the norm for this additional transcript? I figure I will take heavily quant courses possibly financial accounting. I probably will only be able to take 2 before I start getting heavily involved in the application process along with a full time job that averages 55 hrs a week. What is the typical amount of courses people take before applying to schools?
Thanks in advance for your input.
M53895,
A minimum of two is essential I think to show a sustained effort to build a new transcript. Three would probably be an ideal and the typical number. Financial Accounting is a good "core" type course, but I believe most schools recommend that you take a statistics class and a calculus class, if you haven't already. They are the two most basic pre-MBA core courses. If you have already taken these, then your classes at the "nationally ranked business school" could be anything that ties into your career goals. That is, if you plan to become an entrepreneur then admissions officials would see the logic of you taking an entrepreneurship course--again, assuming you've already taken the core quant skills classes like statistics.
Good luck,
