Although computers can enhance people's ability to communicate, computer games are a cause of underdeveloped communication skills in children. After school hours spent playing computer games are hours not spent talking to people. Therefore, children who spent all their spare time playing these games have less experience in interpersonal communication than other children have.

The argument depends on which of the following assumption?

A) Passive activities such as watching television and listening to music do not hinder the development of communication skills in children.
B) Most children have other opportunities, in addition to after school hours, in which they can choose whether to play computer games or to interact with other people.
C) Children who do not spend all their after hour playing computer games spend at least some of that time talking with other people.
D) Formal instruction contributes little or nothing to children's acquisition of communication skills.
E) The mental skills developed through playing computer games do not contribute significantly to children's intellectual development

Clearly C

Conclusion: playing computer games decreases interpersonal communication
Evidence: children playing computers spend less time talking with people

In order to increase personal skills, children must play less computer (evidence), But also use this time to talk with people (assumptio)

The rest of the answers kinda miss the point

C is the best choice. The conclusion states thtat children who spend all their spare time playing computer gams will have less experience in interpersonal communication than other children. This is based on an assumption that children who do not spend all their time playing computer games spend at least some time talking to other people.

This is from OG11, but I do not understand their explanation. I'm hoping someone can explain it better.

tin,

Only C explains that atleast few children who dont play computer games talk to people, thereby improving communication skills.

Only if this is established then we can conclude that

children who spent their spare time playing these games have less experience in interpersonal communication than other children have.

Although computers can enhance peoples ability to communicate, computer games are a cause of underdeveloped communication skills in children. After-school hours spent playing computer games are hours not spent talking with people. Therefore, children who spend all their spare time playing these games have less experience in interpersonal communication than other children have.

The argument depends on which of the following assumptions?

(A) Passive activities such as watching television and listening to music do not hinder the development of communication skills in children.

(B) Most children have other opportunities, in addition to after-school hours, in which they can choose whether to play computer games or to interact with other people.

(C) Children who do not spend all of their after-school hours playing computer games spend at least some of that time talking with other people.

(D) Formal instruction contributes little or nothing to childrens acquisition of communication skills.

(E) The mental skills developed through playing computer games do not contribute significantly to childrens intellectual development.

Why D can't be the answer?

I think C should be the answer.

D has the correct logic, however it is not the assumption this argument depends on.

I know C is the OA. But Iam trying to understand why D is not the corrct answer. If we negate "D", the argument breaks.

If the children who do not play computer games do not spend all or part of their time communicating, then the conclusion : children who spend all their spare time playing these games have less experience in interpersonal communication than other children have will not hold true

Clearly C what if Children who do not spend all of their after-school hours playing computer games spend their all time with their family. Then we should assume leisure time must be spent

1) playing games
2) talk chat interract each other

Otherwise the conclusion will be hampered.

'Therefore, children who spend all their spare time playing these games have less experience in interpersonal communication than other children have.'

that implies children who dont play computer games are more experienced at interpersonal communication. this experience can only be acquired by interacting with people in spare time.
