For God's sake why (B) is wrong?!!!

By the way, are there any rules one has to follow in using "Although" word.

The way I see it A,B and C are wrong because there is no relation between the fact that "museums are devoted to local history..." and the fact that "they are open for exploration.."

These are two separate facts. So you can't use "althoguh" or "but".

A look at the answer choices reveals that there is a change in the tone of the sentence in some of them.

This is clearly a USAGE issue.

when will i use although?

Although it rains in washington most of the year, it does not affect day o day life.
Although he was a very good guy, his habits made him very unpopular.
Although the venture is risky, the returns are amazing.
Although he was sick, he showed up at work in the morning.

So i would expect although to set up the sentence is this way

Although there are dozens of museums devoted to local history in NYC, many groups accude the administration of failure to preserve local history.

so A and B will not be useful here.

E is poor usage..there is no proper link between the first and second parts of the sentence

C is close....But should provide some opposite info..

There are many motels here, but none of them are cheap.
I can come, but i am very busy.
They drove very fast to the airport, but they missed the flight.

here the second part of the sentence provides more info..so AND is best...

D looks ok... i am not sure about there are "also"..but it is the least of the evils...so i would go with D too

Answer D

Only (C) and (D) are in contention. I do not see any contrast required here in (C) with the use of 'but'. Will go for (D).

I would choose B.

A is not parallel with the expression either...or...
C and D there are make it not parallel
E simply changes the meaning of the sentence.

I will go with D. In the "many one-of-a-kind museums from Manhattan to the Bronx that are open for exploration on summer weekends" that should refer to a pronoun in the sentence ; hence "there are " is required. Also, Although is not required here since we are not comparing anything ; the subordinate clause is just giving an additional information about some of the museums.

Hence D.

D.

No need for contrast, the two parts are nor related in a contrasting way, second part is additional info to first part so "and" is suffucient and although not needed. C, but introduces a contrast which is not needed in this.

D. conjunction "and" is necessary to make this sentence correct. "although" is used to make contrast expression, which does not fit here.

D for me.

In A, either...or format is missing.
In B, a but is missing.
In C, the but seems unnecessary.
In E, before the 'and' the sentence sounds awkward, as if there is something missing.

First thing:
many one-of-a-kind museums from Manhattan to the Bronx that are open for exploration on summer weekends is a noun phrase.
So, there are is required for the completion of the independent clause.
B and E are gone.

E is awkward too so gone again :).

IMO Contrast is required so D doesn't stand.

B/W A and C, I am confused
A seems more appropriate here.
Can someone explain the elimination?

thanks .. I see 'are' (bronx that are open) is not main verb. that is part of 'that' clause.

you can eliminate A by either X or Y idiom. so this structure is not parallel in A.
