I think the correct idiom is "depict x as y"

B and E have depicted..to be... so I eliminated them.
D has depict..as if..... so D eliminated

Between A and C. I went for A

Is C passive ? Is my reasoning above correct ?

IMO (A) for the same reasons stated above.

Yes (C) is passive construction.

The correct idiom is "depict X as Y". C is passive, so i think is A.
