(A)the final battle of the War of 1812 was actually fought in the spring of 1815 by Andrew Jackson, who
(B)the War of 1812 actually ended with the battle fought in the spring of 1815 by Andrew Jackson, who

(E)Andrew Jackson actually fought the final battle of the War of 1812 in the spring of 1815 because he

The highlighted part of the above sentence must modify what comes after the comma , check the options only (B) is correct among the given options....

Hi saarthak299 ,

Look at the modifier "Although formally lasting". As per the rules, it MUST modify the subject of the independent clause.

Now, in option A, we have the subject "the final battle". So, it is trying to convey the meaning that the final battle lasted for so many years but in reality it was the war that lasted while the final battle ended " in the spring of 1815 ". Hence, A is incorrect.

Now, in option E, it is trying to say "Andrew Jackson" lasted for so many years. It is completely non sense.

Hence, A and E are out because of modifier issue.

Let me know in case of any concern.

'Although formally lasting from June of 1812 until the signing of the Treaty of Ghent in December of 1814' must modify 'war', and this could be followed by saying that final battle of this long lasted war was fought.......

Another point is that 'who' must modify a person - Andrew Jackson.

This analysis leaves us with option 'B'

Opening modifier should modify war , Only option B has subject war , therefore correct option :)

Although and because in a sentence are incorrect. Another reason C, D and E are incorrect.
