E for me.

'as' is preferred to 'like' A and D also contain a gerund. We try to avoid gerunds. I think only E makes sense.

I'll stick by my choice of D as the correct answer here... in fact, I am now convinced E does not make any sense at all.

So whats the OA, then?

Well, I saw this question on the other forum. The OA is (D). However, I don't understand it. What is wrong with (E) though? And what is up with the use of gerund after "when" in (D)?

E is correctly comparing respiration action to human's respiration action.....

also as compares action..............

Why I went for D

E. just as human beings do when they breathe
What does do refer to here? "continues for some time to respire, once it is picked?" -> does not make any sense to me.

D. as human beings when breathing
Here, the action of "fruits taking oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide" is compared with that of human breathing.

Hence D is correct.

Hope someone will agree.

Anyway, no more SC for me, it is time to move on.
