(A) Although he is as brilliant as, if not more brilliant than, many of his fellow students, he is very lazy and his thesis will be unﬁnished. - Incorrect. Not concise and not parallel.

(B) Although he is as brilliant as, if not more brilliant than, many of his fellow students, he is very lazy with his thesis remaining unﬁnished. - Incorrect. Illogical.

(C) Although he is as brilliant as, if not more brilliant than, many of his fellow students, he is very lazy and will not ﬁnish his thesis. - Correct.

(D) Despite his being brilliant as, if not more brilliant than his fellow students, he is very lazy and will not ﬁnish his thesis. - Incorrect. Use of 'being' is incorrect here.

(E) Being as brilliant as, or more brilliant than, many of his fellow students, he is very lazy and his thesis will be unﬁnished. - Incorrect. Changes the meaning.

Can you please elaborate you explaination??

How B is run on sentence ? "He is very lazy " -> this has a subject and a verb . Secondly, short predicate is allowed between modifier and subject.

I don't this there is much difference between A and C .

I don't this there is much difference between A and C .

Thanks. I have corrected my explanation for option B. A has parallelism error and is more wordy than C. So, C is preferred.

Hi..Is Option A wrong because of parallelism error?? because after "and" possessive form is used.
