C uses "were" which is wrong..and uses "cost" instead of "costs".
Also, I guess "while" should be used as actions happened at same time.

in choice "C",use of as implies that the corn yied was doubled because the costs were cut to half.

while in choice "b",use of while implies the simultaneous happening of two events (yields were doubled and costs were halved) as a result of mechanized farming.

Should be B.

A implies that the previous year's costs were cut in half by this year's yield.
C previous year's what?
"Farming mechanization" in D and E is incorrect
