I know some other guy applying to business school in the fall from my company. He has been there for years (I have only for a year) so he got promoted as well as being a minority. Not knowing anything else from his app will he get picked over me every time?? I don't think he has is GMAT done yet, so hopefully he applies for R2 and I can beat him to the punch:)

so there might be a few too many unknowns here for anyone to say off-hand
I think that you shouldn't be disheartened - people get promoted for all kinds of reason aside from performance such as tenure at the company, whether managers think they'll stick around, etc etc.

So don't worry about it! Focus on the things you can control like making your essays top-notch :-D

Theres more to you than what division you work in no? Or is that the only thing that makes you you?

Relaxamundo.

Alternate strategy: Tell the guy to write about how great scoretop was for him in his essays

I know a 1st year @ HBS who has a coworker with the same exact role on the same team that is also going to be starting at HBS this year. To top it off, their work experience is very similar to my own, same type of function, but a different industry.

IMO, it doesn't affect your app. Just bribe your recommenders to write more glowing reviews about you :).

Re: Am I doomed? [#permalink]
He can correct me if I get this wrong but Kry got into Kellogg in R2 with a scholarship after a few people he knew with almost identical profiles got in during R1. I also met someone at DAK who had the same basic job function at him (for a competitor of his companies), similar education, and same ethnic background (an "overrepresented" minority)

Don't worry about it.

Re: Am I doomed? [#permalink]
you'll do fine terp26. I applied to Kellogg R2, where they already accepted THREE other guys with the same educational background, same major, same industry, same type of job, same ethnicity, and similar stories (even same Extracurriculars). I thought I had no chance in R2, but in the end, they still let me in :)

EDIT: river beat me to it, again. :P

LOL, but river generally has more time than me these days (until his school starts), so he beats me to most of the posts :P

Re: Am I doomed? [#permalink]
unfortunately river and I have not met up yet, but I did meet some great folks at Days at Haas, Day at Kellogg and other events (TJ, ghgirl, futuredukemba, ujjib, reds4, terry12, zakk, branson, bherronp, aviroop, kwam, and more...) Everyone I've met in person from GMATClub has been AMAZINGLY friendly, which proves again we have a great community here!

Cheers!
