IMO E.
First comma should be followed with "which". The second comma in D makes the sentence clumsy. Stretch from X to Y seems more concise that Stretch.. starting from X to Y . Starting is redundant here i guess.

OA plz

Option D. "Starting from" should also have an "ending at" which is missing in this sentence

OA is E

I understand E is clearly the best option. But isn't E also a run on sentence?

Yes, good question here. B is very similar to E and is a tempting answer. It has an idiom problem though. We wouldn't say 'greater than half' in this setup - we need to say 'more than half'.

Made a mistake, in D you need something else to complete the "strating at"

Therefore leading only E!

Thx for your posts!

Hi KW, (or anyone)

One question, is the comma before the underlined phrase enough to get rid of 'that' and instead opt for 'which', which always needs a comma before as opposed to 'that'?

Please let us know

Thanks!
Cheers

Hello,
As long as that is used as a relative pronoun clause, it need not be followed by a comma (atleast on the GMAT), but if that is used as a conjunction, it can be followed by a comma. Anyway, here we see that that is used as a relative pronoun introducing restrictive information.

E distorts meaning..without the comma after ..visible sky, the end phrase becomes part of main sentence giving the implication that more than half of the part of visible sky from Virgo to Grus is the part that is affected

Kyle, I chose D because FROM X TO Y made sense to me. Can you claridy my doubt. I recognised E as potential answer but let it because of missing comma.

A. that stretches across more than half of the visible sky from the constellation Virgo and the constellation Grus.
B. that stretch across greater than half of the visible sky from the constellation Virgo to the constellation Grus.
C. which stretches across an area more than half of the visible sky from the constellation Virgo to the constellation Grus.
D. which stretch across more than half of the visible sky, starting from the constellation Virgo to the constellation Grus.
E. which stretch across more than half of the visible sky from the constellation Virgo to the constellation Grus.

undoubtedly E.

we do not need a comma before that. A and B are eliminated right away.
C - which stretches - singular verb for the plural noun structures - incorrect. - out.
between D and E - ing modifier needs to associate with the noun and verb of the preceded clause. nothing resembles the BSS, starting from X to Y...incorrect usage of ing modifier.
E is better formulated, as now the range associates with the verb "stretch".

E is the answer.
