Correct idiom is : So X that Y
This one seems to be frequently tested. Each time this idiom is tested, you would find "X enough that" as one of the answer choice, which uses the wrong idiom.

(A) so despised that it was
(B) so despised to be
(C) so despised it had been
(D) despised enough that it was
(E) despised enough as to be

B, C, and E do not maintain the same verb tense in the sentence. We saw "was once" and should look for continuance of that tense.

D uses "that it was" which is correct but "depised enough" breaks the idiom phrase.

A keeps the same verb tense and idiom.
