Question Type: Strengthen

Main Point: Customer Service --> Increased Sales
Missing Point: No other factors have affected the increase in sales.

(A) The other two pharmacies in town advertise less than Sonny ’s. - Incorrect. Opposite.

(B) The other two pharmacies’ products are sold for approximately the same prices as similar products at Sonny’s. - Correct. Eliminates an alternate factor by stating that the products were sold at the same price.

(C) Sonny ’s is near the center of the city , a location that is convenient for most of the city ’s pharmacy customers. - Incorrect. Opposite.

(D) Sonny’s customer service was, according to a city-wide survey ,comparable to that of the city’s other two pharmacies. - Incorrect. Opposite. States that customer service was not responsible for the increased sales but something else was responsible.

(E) The three pharmacies in town often require different wait times for the same prescription. - Incorrect. Opposite.

Among the three 24-hour pharmacies in the city, Sonny’s Pharmacy is consistently the most profitable. Sonny ’s claims that since the three pharmacies carry the same products, the store’s success is attributable to its superior customer service.

Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports Sonny ’s claim?

(A) The other two pharmacies in town advertise less than Sonny ’s. -> shows there is a reason beside superior customer service, hence a weakener

(B) The other two pharmacies’ products are sold for approximately the same prices as similar products at Sonny’s. (park it)

(C) Sonny ’s is near the center of the city , a location that is convenient for most of the city ’s pharmacy customers. -> shows there is a reason beside superior customer service, hence a weakener

(D) Sonny’s customer service was, according to a city-wide survey ,comparable to that of the city’s other two pharmacies. -> we need to prove that Sonny's customer service is superior - this does no help

(E) The three pharmacies in town often require different wait times for the same prescription. -> this is tricky, compared to B, in E the relationship of customer service and wait times is not that apparent.

This is incorrect. E isn't the opposite, it's just not specific enough and so cannot be used to affect the argument.

Conclusion: Store's success is due to superior customer service
premise; Sonny's is most profitable of the 3 similar businesses

B eliminates alternate causes by stating that prices can't factor into profitability.

Hi, why option B is a more preferred choice over option E? Isnt it possible that because of different wait time, sonny's pharmacy services a customer more quickly and hence more sales, thus implying that a faster turnaround time lead to increased sales, which then led to increased profits.?

Option-E is one of the coolest GMAT traps, forcing the test-taker to assume the favourability in the meaning of the word: different wait time
Let's have an analogy to better explain the situation:
The price of iPhone-X is different from that of a Samsung S10.

Does that imply, Price of iPhone is GREATER than Samsung?
      No. An absolute 100% NO.
It simply means that the prices of both entities are NOT equal. Cannot conlcude either LESS or MORE.

Quote:
Different ----implies----> NOT equal. The meaning can sway in both the directions: either LESS or MORE

Similarly in Option-E,
(E) The three pharmacies in town often require different wait times for the same prescription.
different wait time does NOT mean that wait time in Sonny’s Pharmacy is BETTER THAN that of other pharmacies.
The meaning can sway in both the directions: either BETTER or WORSE

Any answer choice which can sway in both the directions is NEVER going to be the correct answer.

Now, have a closer look at B:
(B) The other two pharmacies’ products are sold for approximately the same prices as similar products at Sonny’s. - Correct.
Eliminates an alternate factor by stating that the products were sold at the same price.
It's a Defender-Strengthener stating that since other conditions were the same, the superior customer service was the ONLY probable reason that brought this demarcation.
