An international group of more than 2,000 scientists project an average global warming that will be between 1.8 and 6.3 degrees Fahrenheit by the year 2000.

(A) project an average global warming that will be between 1.8 and -> group is singular, so we need singular verb. Incorrect.

(B) project an average global warming to be from 1.8 to -> Same as A. Incorrect.

(C) project global warming that will average between 1.8 and -> Same as A. Incorrect.

(D) projects global warming to average from 1.8 to -> average global warming makes sense. Incorrect.

(E) projects an average global warming of between 1.8 and -> It is better. We have subject verb agreement issue resolved and "average" is at right place.

So, I think E. :)

(A) project an average global warming that will be between 1.8 and

(D) projects global warming to average from 1.8 to

(E) projects an average global warming of between 1.8 and

Now, logically, the group projects some metric. It doesn't project global warming itself. So, Option E is right.

Option elimination -

(A) project an average global warming that will be between 1.8 and - S (group - singular) V (project - plural) disagreement

(B) project an average global warming to be from 1.8 to - S (group - singular) V (project - plural) disagreement

(C) project global warming that will average between 1.8 and- S (group - singular) V (project - plural) disagreement

(D) projects global warming to average from 1.8 to - Average is one number, but the construction from x to y means that the average can take multiple values from 1.8 to 6.3. Not the intended meaning.

(E) projects an average global warming of between 1.8 and - Correct. The average is one number, and that number is between 1.8 and 6.3

In (E), is it okay to use two prepositions "of" & "between" together?

Between D & E, Grammar aside
D) An international group projects global warming. Isn't that a subtle meaning difference here?
Its absurd to say that Group of scientists projects global warming.....
I feel Option E is much cleaner than D ,and it corrects this subtle meaning error of option D by telling:
Group of scientists projects an average global warming......
