Andre already saved 3/7 of the cost. Therefore, remaining cost = 4/7.

He again saved 2/5 of the remaining cost(4/7).
So, actual remaining cost 3/5 of 4/7 i.e. = (3/5)*(4/7) = 12/35.

Answer C.

Let the cost of the new car be 35

Amount saved = $$\frac{3}{7}*35 = 15$$ ; Amount left is 20
Amount to be saved before summer = $$20*\frac{2}{5}$$ = 8 ; AMount remaining is 12

Thus, Andre needs to save $$\frac{12}{35}$$ part of the cost fo the new car...

Answer must be (C) $$\frac{12}{35}$$

Suppose the car is coming @700$. Andre already has 3/7 of this amount = 3/7 * 700 =$300
How much more he needs to save = $400 Out of this value - he is able to save 2/5th of this amount = 2/5 * 400 =$160
How much more he needs to save = $400 -$160 = $240 To represent in fraction =$240/\$700 = 12/35

If Andre has saved 3/7 of the cost of a new car, he has 4/7 of the cost remaining. Since he will be able to save 2/5 of the remaining cost, he will be able to save 2/5 x 4/7 = 8/35 of the total cost of the new car before the end of the summer.

Thus, he will still have 1 - (3/7 + 8/35) = 1 - 23/35 = 12/35 of the cost of the car left to save.

Answer: C
