So as to is used with a verb.

For example, I am going to speak softly so as to not disturb you.
Essentially, when action will affect a verb.

"copy/pasting my post from the other thread "
-----------------

"So as to" is similar in meaning to "in order to" and usually used in cause-effect type of sentence. "So as to" is usually followed by a verb.

Usage,

"Ryan extended his leave so as to spend more time with the family."
can also be written as
"Ryan extended his leave in order to spend more time with the family."

Hey keysharma12
My take is to ding those choices that have "so as to". Those are junk choices in GMAT

Pls refer to Gauss's grammar notes.

“So as” is never correct
Incorrect: He runs everyday so as to build his stamina.
Correct: He runs everyday in an effort to build his stamina
Correct: Her debts are so extreme as to threaten the future of the compan

i agree with nusmavrik

"so as" is always wrong in GMAT

"so" + adjective + "as {to}" + verb - is the correct form
