C

A , B and E have logic error because "appearing, seeming, and being " will modify "the Youth Canorous"
For example
"the Youth Canorous" can not "appear[ing] to be the only candidate"

D wrong because it omits "to" after "seemed"

A) Appearing to be [Incorrectly modifying the Youth Canorous – eliminate it]
B) Seeming to be [Incorrectly modifying the Youth Canorous – eliminate it]
C) Because he appeared to be [hold it]
D) Because he seemed ["to be" missing - eliminate it]
E) Being [ Being is almost always wrong on the GMAT – eliminate it]
