Are there any standards or guidelines when it comes to writing essays?

I have an essay here that says 2-pages.

Is this 2-pages double spaced? And, what about font or margins? Can we tinker with the format or is there a certain format that we should use?

Spacing is usually specified somewhere in app description. As to the format (fonts, margins etc) - I think it's pretty much generic, just make sure your text is as plain as possible.

d_an81,

If they give you no instructions regarding spacing a safe assumption is 10 to 11 point type, double-spacing, and one-inch margins. If you need more room and they don't stipulate double-spacing then try 1.5-inch line spacing. It's OK to tweak the top and lower margins down to 0.7" but avoid messing with the side margins. If you have to go down to 10-inch type then at least put a blank line between each paragraph to keep from blinding the reader.
