1) I was born in belgium (near brussels no less!)
2) HBS is a good school but there are many other great schools - you are status blind right now. It's your dream school because its HBS not because it offers anything of particular value to you
3) #2 leads me to worry that your essays will be weak on the 'why HBS' angle and that will put a 2nd nail in your coffin
4) And your 580 score is already one pretty big rusty nail.
5) Go buy the manhattan GMAT books and official guide
6) Study 200 hours
7) Retake with a goal of 650+
8) Apply elsewhere
9) Forget whomever had 'one admit' at HBS with a 580, its a hail mary pass.
10) Move to Leuven and mail me beer

:)

As for your original question - I am no authority on this clearly, but I think that anyone who gets into HBS with 580 is an outlier and not to be mistaken to represent the population with that score in terms of admissions chances. In the end each profile is different. So, yeah. What Rhyme said, I think.

are there other things working for you?
according to their chances indication model, the fact that you are european applying to an american school is an advantage, and if you managed many people and had many promotions it gives you a better chance at HBS.
by the way, if you're young (26-27) it might help as well, so don't wait too long :)

Well, you should highlight your strengths as much as possible, and an admission consultant can help you do that. in addition, you should really try to improve your GMAT, but you don't need me to tell you that :)

I thought about taking the GRE instead of the GMAT, but i heard that some schools prefer applicants who took the GMAT.
anyone heard about it, know if it's true? what about HBS?

I would also bet that HBS turned down some applicants with perfect 800s!

One-time lucky case?

yes!
it seems that it was a brilliant candidate.....

for example: they advised a girl who is 25 now, who became olympic champion in gymnastics at the age of 19, she graduated from most prestigious local university, but due to her son who is 2 years old (other more significant responsabilities, other than GMAT) she did not care much about GMAT, and took it only once, after having a lunch with the prime -minister of her country who congratulated her and her team of teenagers on winning European youth gymnastics championship (probably she was more occupied by kids rather than by preparing for the GMAT). :-D

just feel the difference.

p.s.this is my 1000's post!

Do you really think HBS need more applicants? to make more money from the application fees? they have about ten thousand applicants every year! and don't forget that someone has to sit and read all these applications...
