Weight loss can be accomplished through dietary changes or through use of a supplement made from the root of a common plant. It has been found that people who use the supplement to lose weight are more prone to panic attacks than people who lose weight through dietary changes only. Clearly, the supplement causes panic attacks.

The argument is most vulnerable to criticism on which of the following grounds?

A. It fails to consider the possibility that weight loss itself causes an increase in tendency to have panic attacks.
B. Without clear evidence, it rules out the possibility that panic attacks cause people to lose weight.
C. It assumes without warrant that dietary changes cannot cause a reduction in the tendency to have panic attacks.
D. It overlooks the possibility that people who use the supplement to lose weight also use dietary changes.
E. It assumes without warrant that those most likely to have panic attacks choose to use the supplement rather than dietary changes to lose weight.

We're trying to weaken the conclusion that supplement causes panic attacks.

A. It fails to consider the possibility that weight loss itself causes an increase in tendency to have panic attacks. - Reverses the cause and effect. But we don't understand why does the same effect don't show up in case of dietary changes only.

B. Without clear evidence, it rules out the possibility that panic attacks cause people to lose weight. - But people with dietary changes only are also losing weight, so why aren't they having panic attacks?

C. It assumes without warrant that dietary changes cannot cause a reduction in the tendency to have panic attacks. Yes, maybe this is why people with dietary changes only aren't having panic attacks, otherwise, they might have faced as many attacks as well.

D. It overlooks the possibility that people who use the supplement to lose weight also use dietary changes. But we're compared with supplement lost weight with dietary changes only lost weight.

E. It assumes without warrant that those most likely to have panic attacks choose to use the supplement rather than dietary changes to lose weight. The argument doesn't assume this, let alone without warrant.

The argument seems most vulnerable because it doesn’t consider that the weight loss itself might be causing the panic attacks. I’ve seen this kind of thing before, where changes in health can sometimes lead to unexpected side effects.
