B. they increased their encounters of animals and plants far different than their expectations - Meaning error
C. they encountered animals and plants increasingly different from their expectations. - Adverb can not modify a Noun
D. animals and plants they encountered were increasingly different than what they expected.
E. they increasingly encountered animals and plants significantly different than those they were expecting - Incorrect use of than, than should be used with comparative words
