As per Manhattan SC guide :"none" can be either singular or plural. Here "none of my friends" is plural. So Option A must be true.

its clearly D, irrespective of what MGMAT says, the rules clearly state that none of plural always use a singular.

I marked D and my reasoning below:
none is singular and has is the right tense in this situation.
C and D look ok. eliminate C because of presence of yet which is redundant and not one of my friends is nonsensical.

the most logic would be has but it is not stated that is MUST be has, have can also work... I think the question is wordy!

None of my friends means not even ONE of my friends. So looking at the answer choices only 'has' is required.

(A) none of my friends have been able to solve
NOT have BUT has would be correct

(B) none of my friends was able to solve
'As of this morning' clearly indicates that 'WAS' is wrong here.

(C) not one of my friends has yet been able to solve
yet and been both are redundant here.

(D) none of my friends has been able to solve
correct answer. Singular subject singular verb.

(E) nobody among my friends have solved
NOT have BUT has would be correct

D is the correct answer because it is "none of" not just "none"
"none" uses plural form of verb
"none of" uses singular form of verb

The issue seems to be none - is it plural or singular?
In colloquial English I have often heard 'none of my friends had been able to catch the morning train' - but here D (OA) says 'is' singular is applicable?
So, does 'none' apply to singular bunches of entities? (family, team/ board of director(S) and so on)
on the GMAT if such a question comes what do we pick?
