I think it is E

the rare... the more... is a correct parallel form of ajectictives

"whether" is correctly used

I would choose E. Rare, rarer and rarest.

Must be E.

Correct construction is "The rarer... the more..". So A,B and C are out.

"Like X or Y or Z" is wrong. "whether it is X or Y or Z" is correct.
