Re: As with those of humans, the DNA of grape plants contains sites where [#permalink]
As with those of humans, the DNA of grape plants contains sites where certain unique sequences of nucleotides are repeated over and over.

A. As with those of humans, the DNA of grape plants contains sites where (Use of AS is wrong here, Like would be more appropriate - Correct use would have been : As it is with those of humans)
B. As human DNA, the DNA of grape plants contain sites in which (same as A)
C. As it is with human DNA, the DNA of grape plants, containing sites in which
D. Like human, the DNA of grape plants contain sites where (Should be: Like human DNA, the DNA)
E. Like human DNA, the DNA of grape plants contains sites in which (Correct)

Answer E

Simple concept of GMAT SC :)

We cannot use ''As'' to compare 2 things, instead, we use ''like'' .

So in 2 secs we can eliminate A,B,C.

Answer D is wrong because they are trying to compare human and the DNA of grape --> out.

Answer E uses the correct idiom ''Like X, Y '' and compares ''human DNA'' and '' DNA of grape''.

So E is correct.

Comparison should be between stuff of a same genre.
Like should be used to compare nouns. These rules left us with nothing but E.

My Reasoning to ans E.

For comparison, both "As" & "Like" can be used with the only difference:
As+ clause; or
Like + noun

Reason for elimination:
A) "Those" refers to DNA and needs to be singular
B) As + Clause does is not shown here
C) The word "it" is ambiguous. Subject DNA does not have a verb
D) Like + Noun (human)- we are comparing human DNA (not human) to DNA of grape
E) Correct

Please give a kudos if this helps!

As with those of humans, the DNA of grape plants contains sites where certain unique sequences of nucleotides are repeated over and over.

A. As with those of humans, the DNA of grape plants contains sites where Incorrect comparison between something possessed by DNA ("with those of humans") with DNA itself. Also, incorrect use of plural "those" for singular DNA. Eliminate.

B. As human DNA, the DNA of grape plants contain sites in which Incorrect use of "as" for expression of similarity/comparison. Eliminate.

C. As it is with human DNA, the DNA of grape plants, containing sites in which Same error as in (B). Eliminate.

D. Like human, the DNA of grape plants contain sites where Incorrect comparison of "human" with "DNA of grape plants". Eliminate.

E. Like human DNA, the DNA of grape plants contains sites in which Correct answer - above errors are rectified and no new errors are introduced.

Hope this helps.
