Relative distance between 2 trains at 4:30PM = 100*2.5 = 250 miles

Relative speed = 150-100 = 50 miles/hr

Time taken by train B to overtake train A = 250/50= 5 hrs

Total distance travelled by train B= 150*5= 750 miles

A. 250
B. 500
C. 750
D. 800
E. 1500

Solution:

o Train A has already travelled 2.5 hr when train B started.
o Distance traveled by A in first 2.5 hr = $$100*2.5 = 250$$ miles
o When train B overtook A, both the train must have traveled same distance.
o Let t be the time when train B overtook A.
 Distance covered by A = $$250 + 100*t$$
 Distance covered by B = $$150*t$$
o $$150*t = 250 + 100*t$$
o $$150*t – 100*t =250$$
o $$50*t = 250$$
o $$t = 5 hr$$
o Total distance travelled by travel B = $$150*5 = 750$$ miles.
Hence, the correct answer is Option C.
