every service is done at 4.09*10^6 times of turns
so at 30th service the machine must have run ;
4.09*10^6*30 ; ~1.2*10^8
IMO C

It asks about the number of turns since the last maintenance. It obviously has to be less than 4.09× 10^6. Hence A

Hi,

The question asks "when" and not "since" so the right answer will be till the time of the last maintenance.
So, the correct answer will be 4.09 * 10^6 * 30 = 12.27 * 10^7 = 1.2 * 10^8
Hence the correct option is C.

Solution

Given
In this question, we are given that
• At Car Part Corporation, there is a machine that produces brake pads.
• As the machine works, a wheel assembly turns.
• After the wheel assembly turns 4.09× 10^6 times, the machine needs maintenance.
• Since being installed, the machine has received maintenance 30 times.

To find
We need to determine
• Approximately how many total turns had the wheel assembly made when the machine last received maintenance?

Approach and Working out
For each maintenance, the wheel assembly turns $$4.09 * 10^6$$ times.
Hence, for 30 maintenances, total number of wheel assemble turns = $$30 * 4.09 * 10^6 = 3 * 4.09 * 10^6 * 10 = 12.27 * 10^7 = 1.227 * 10^8$$

Thus, option C is the correct answer.
