Hi,

Does anyone know how does spelling mistakes effect your AWA score. I have always had problems with spelling even in my native language, and since I started to write almost everything using word processors it got even worse.

Good point raised, it is like calculators killing one's basic math calculations skills. When I was in high school back in 80's , I could easily tell how much 14*9 is , but now I cannot do it without calculator.

I am not sure if this is right forum to discuss though."GMAT strategies" forum is better place for discussions like this I guess.

Misspelling makes your score go down, although it won't have a huge impact. The most important thing is the construction of the essay. Just make sure not to misspell transition phrases, such as "for example.â€

A few minor errors would probably be overlooked. However, numerous errors are unlikely to help your score especially when the word is spelled in such a way that the reader has difficulty determining the intended word. Another danger is that misspellings might be read as grammar errors. Consider -"The team need a new proposal." The omitted "s" of needs could be read as a typo or as a grammar error.

Best,

Hjort
