Linda-

When writing essays pertaining to experiences and stories, is it appropriate to include names?

Obviously, I would not use full names, and could easily use "surnames" but it is very hard to tell a personal story (e.g. "name someone whose life you have impacted") without citing these people by at least their first name.

I know its a minor detail, but wanted to check with you before I start writing these types of essays. Thanks!

You're asking a good question. It is a good idea to use names because that makes the story more personal and real. Obviously, you don't to want breach confidences, but that's not what we're talking about here. Assuming you have permission, use full names when possible and appropriate or just first names.

Good luck!
