I think it's C
'interval between' sounds idiomatic here, interval between what? -- between its passes
tough to explain why I picked C over A

But I found between it's passes bit strange. I mean passes is a verb.. but here it is working as a noun..I checked with dictinary.com also and I didnt find anything to justify that passes can be used as it is used here in this sentence.

IMO here "passes" is not a verb.

"pass" can be used as a noun. for e.g.

"At each pass, the nightguard blew his whistle"

Haley's comet makes a pass once in 76 years. Between its passes,it does something ( changes its orbit slightly).

tough one .... I first chose the wrom one...

but the sentence here should be dealt as... halley's comet has a 76 year inerval and that interval is ''between'' two of ''its'' passes...
pass one ---- 76 years ----and then pass number 2...

''passes'' here is a plural form of the ''pass''

hope that helps!
