Because of a quality control problem, a supplier of flu vaccines will not be able to ship any supplies of the vaccine for the upcoming flu season. This will create a shortage of flu
vaccines and result in a loss of productivity as workers call in sick.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument above?

(A) The quality control problem of the supplier is not as severe as some experts had initially predicted.

(B) Other suppliers of flu vaccine have not been affected by the quality control problem.

(C) Last year there was also a shortage of flu vaccine available.

(D) The price of flu vaccines is expected to fall in the next ten years.

(E) The flu season is expected to last longer than usual this year.

IMHO (B) Other suppliers of flu vaccine have not been affected by the quality control problem.

A supplier will not be able to ship, there might be some other suppliers ( The question doesn't tell us that there is only a single firm which produces the flue vaccine) who can supply the flue vaccines .

We need to weaken this statement "This will create a shortage of flu vaccines and result in a loss of productivity as workers call in sick"

If we can show that there might not be a shortage of vaccines, we can say that the workers will not fall sick.
Option B does just the same by telling that there are other suppliers of the vaccine.

Abhishek009, TeamGMATIFY, it is not a reasonable assumption to assume that if company A has a quality control issue, than company B also has a quality control problem.

Thus, in saying there would be a shortage, you would assume that a reasonable person knows that other companies make the vaccine, and would still deliver it. The shortage would occur in spite of the other suppliers.

Something that would weaken the argument is along the lines of 'a new company, C, will be releasing a vaccine this year,' or, 'actually, company A will be able to release the vaccine and thus there will be no shortage'.

Answer A perfectly fits with the second prediction.
