I see 'not only, but also', choose A. Is there any other trick with this question?

Guys...I feel A is not correct.
Reason: Subject of 'show' is discovery and not Biologists. So, it should be shows and not show.

Therefore I pick C. Please explain if my understaning is wrong.

shouldn't 'show' agree with 'the discovery' ? In this case, there is only one discovery, making it singular, and so the proper form should be 'shows', shouldn't it ?

What kind of parallelism are we looking at here? broaden is parallel with show that and not shows??

A is clearly wrong as there is S-V disagreement.

Also, scientists have long thought is a continuous process.

A seems correct. "..discovery ... may not only broaden, but also show..." Because "broaden" and "show" are attached to modal verb "may", we don't need third person present tense suffix "+s".

I picked C, but after your explanation I can see why A is correct as well. Tough question.
