what is wrong with option E

"which is higher than it is in"

Which can refer to GDP growth in above sentence and it can also refer to GDP growth as its antecedent.
Would someone pls explain out here.

Many thanks !

Boasting one of the world's fastest growing economies, Brazil showed a real GDP growth rate of 7% in one year, higher than in the most developed countries of the world that year.

A) higher than in
B) higher than that of
C) and higher than that of
D) which is higher than in
E) which is higher than it is in

Boasting one of the world's fastest growing economies, Brazil showed a real GDP growth rate of 7% in one year, higher than that of (growth rate of) the most developed countries of the world that year.

Must be (B) for correct comparison...

Hi Abhishek,

E) Boasting one of the world's fastest growing economies, Brazil showed a real GDP growth rate of 7% in one year, which is higher than it is in most developed countries of the world that year.

which refers to the closest noun before the comma. So in this case which refers to 'year'.
So you are basically saying that the year is higher than it is in most developed countries. :?
Does not make any sense, since you want to compare growth rates. D) and E) are incorrect

A) higher than in (comparing GDP with countries)

B) higher than that of

C) and higher than that of ("and" is wrong)

D) which is higher than in ("which" is modifying "ONE YEAR")

E) which is higher than it is in ("which" is modifying "ONE YEAR")
