Cost per gallon $0.80$0.75

The table above gives the gasoline costs and consumption rates for a certain driven at 50 miles per hour, using each of two brands of gasloine. How many miles further can the car be driven at this speed on $12 worth of brand X gasoline than on$12 worth of brand Y gasoline?

A. 20
B. 24
C. 84
D. 100
E. 104 [/u]

(B) it is

(12/0.8)*40 - (12/0.75)*36 = 24

first we need to find out how many gallons of each brand we can buy
12/0.8=15gallons of X and 12/0.75=16gallons of Y
second the distance we can go
15*40=600 for X and 16*36=576 for Y
the difference is 600-576=24
