I think I weighed my opinion in over a year ago, and while I'm glad to see that this thread is still up and running, I'd like to re-emphasize on some of the things I've said.

Again, more than happy to chat with anyone who's thinking about bringing a dog to school, or getting one after school starts. I'll give you my unbiased opinion on having a dog at school. But lastly I want to say this again - it's totally do-able with a dog (case in point!)

I'm attending Tepper in the fall. And I'm definitely bringing the pooch. I couldn't imagine getting through it without him. Like many have said, as long as you aren't a great distance away from campus (I'd say no more than 25 minutes) you should be fine. I mean, you have to eat at some point, right? You certainly get a break. Plus, I'm anticipating that it will be nice to get away for about 45 min -an hour during mid-day. Not to mention, pets can be a huge stress relief (and the opposite, as well I guess. LOL). Anways, I know that bringing my little Dexter will certainly make the transition that much smoother.

I've started a blog about my GMAT woes and matriculating into Tepper, graduation, and Beyoooonddd!!!! You can check out pictures of my little buddy here:

Good luck with Grad School!!!

Best,
Josh

I went to Wharton and brought my 180 pound Great Dane with me. He was the unofficial mascot of the school and everybody loved him. A side benefit was that I was able to keep a regular exercise schedule as he required at least a 30 minute run each day. Also, a group of fellow Wharton dog owners formed a play group and we would meet up a few times a week and watched each others pets when we had to travel. A side benefit is that many of these people became my best friends.

I work ridiculous hours but have a 110 lbs Doberman at home.

The trick is to have roommates who also have dogs. As long as the dogs get along (and pretty much any two dogs can eventually get along) not only will you have someone else who can let the dogs out, but the dogs can play with each other during the day and get more exercise than any amount of running that you could do with them.

Living in a house in SoCal also helps... I haven't closed my backdoor in over a month and I doubt anyone would try to sneak in after seeing my friendly-but-misunderstood pooch.

It has eliminated all NYC MBA programs for me though.

Good point, who wants to buy my (slightly used) dog?

Honestly... if you have a dog, how could you not bring them?

I would be willing to bet anybody suggesting not bringing your dog doesn't actually own a dog. My wife and I have 2 dogs and are considering having to leave one with my parents (she is a big dog for NYC) and even the thought of only bringing one dog is painful.

I found myself thinking the same thing - and I'm not even a dog owner! Based on how much I love my cousin's dog, I can't imagine having my own dog and then having to leave it behind for two years . Good luck with that difficult situation, mappleby.

Dogs rule. I propose anyone who is planning on going to business school without a dog strongly reconsider.
